Overview
This report reviews research equipment & facility management system and support program in the U.S., Germany and Japan. In the U.S., government agencies such as the NSF and Department of Energy (DOE) construct, operate, and manage research facilities and equipment according to their characteristics and duties. In Germany, the science policy advisory agency ‘German Scientific Council (WR)’ operates science & technology-related divisions, suggests policies for development directions, and reviews budget bills regarding large research facilities. Japan also promotes the maintenance and joint utilization of college & public research institute’s facilities and high-tech research facilities to build world-level research environment and infrastructure (4th Science & Technology Master Plan).
