Overview
Basic research infrastructure refers to research equipment & facilities, resources, and information that are essential in performing basic research and creating performances. It even includes research equipment & facility-related development & operational technology and research personnel. It plays a leading role for industrial development by enabling the creation of the world’s best or only research data that can change conventional science and technology paradigms. This report aims to state the definition and scope of a basic research infrastructure and highlight the importance of securing research competitiveness through analysis of the core components of basic research infrastructure such as outdated technology and operations, maintenance, and management technology. In addition, the case of the Korea Basic Science Institute (KBSI), Korea’s leading basic research infrastructure agency, was added.
