This report reviews the background and importance of large research facilities such as the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) and HANARO and explains domestic large research facilities in five different categories, using visual materials. In addition, four policy issues targeted to develop large research facilities are introduced. This report is published to discuss the need for these large research facilities, which provide an opportunity to enhance national reputation and competitiveness (ex: innovative growth & the development of science and technology, creation of socioeconomic ripple effects through new innovative industry, suggestion of motives for securing talent in science and technology, and promoting international cooperation, etc.), and to lend support for their future development.
