For nurturing professional equipment engineers SEE, School of Equipment Engineers
School of Equipment Engineers
The School of Equipment Engineers is a program specially designed for the systematic and professional education and training of equipment engineers. This school, under the control of the Ministry of Science, ICT, and Future Planning, aims to nurture the nation’s best research equipment engineers. SEE offers a brand-new experience with specialized programs.
We open up the future for creative science and technology through the establishment of a research equipment engineer education and training system and establishment of professional jobs.
We promise that we will keep doing our best to make contribution to the improvement of domestic research competitiveness and enhancement of efficiency in R&D investments by fostering professional engineers and allowing them to operate high-tech research equipment more efficiently.
Who is an ‘equipment engineer’?
High-tech research facilities and equipment(F&E) have become more important every day.
High-tech research F&E have become more important in generating innovative research performances for the creation of new technologies and new industries.
With the expansion of science and technology investments, investment in research F&E has continuously increased. The government has invested more than 8% (approx. KRW 900 billion) of the national R&D budget in the development of research F&E.
As ‘high-tech and large-scale’ becomes the mainstream in science and technology, it appears that these investments will continue to increase.
We efficiently operate and manage idle and unused F&E.
To operate and manage research equipment efficiently and provide high-quality, reliable services, the role played by equipment engineers is important.
In advanced countries, equipment staff is categorized as a ‘professional job’ and is as well-treated as researchers. In Korea, however, investments in these equipment experts have been relatively low, compared to investments in the introduction and construction research equipment and facilities.
We build a better future for research F&E by fostering the best research equipment experts.
Therefore, the Ministry of Science, ICT, and Future Planning promotes ‘Research Equipment Engineer Education & Training Program’ starting 2013. For this, the government body plans to foster research equipment professionals systematically by nominating educational and training institutes and developing customized education and training programs in connection with the related organizations.
In addition, we are going to continue to work hard to help research equipment engineers establish themselves as ‘professional employees ’ by improving people’s view of them through the introduction of a research equipment engineer license and the discovery of diverse employment stabilization policies.
The School of Equipment Engineers (SEE) operates a total of 10 campuses after nominating professional educational institutes across the nation.
About the education and training programThe program offers students an opportunity to get the professional knowledge needed to become a research equipment engineer through a 4-stage systematic education.
