Science and technology promise a better future, and it is advanced research facilities and equipment(F&E) that lead science and technology.

During the period of industrialization, there was a strong demand for the quantitative expansion of research F&E as a means to back up the growth and development of science and technology. Now, advanced research F&E lead new science and technology, the origin of the Nobel Prize. Therefore, many countries around the world have wanted to establish the latest research F&E. Under the rapidly changing global environment, the need for an upgrade of research F&E to an advanced level is urgent, and the NFEC takes the initiative for the advancement of the nation’s science and technology infrastructure.

As the number of research F&E that back up South Korean Editionea’s advanced science and technology has increased since the 1990s, there has been a demand for an integrated management system that can manage and operate Korean Editionea’s national research F&E. As a result, the NFEC was named the ‘integrated research facilities & equipment management agency.’ We have remained focused on evolving into one of the world’s top 7 super powers in terms of science & technology infrastructure through the NFEC.

As an integrated research F&E management body, we submit various plans and bills on national research F&E to the NSTC. In addition, we operate the Review Board of the Research Equipment Budget and review the budget in cooperation with the Ministry of Strategy and Finance. In collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology as well, we have played a pivotal role in the management of national research F&E such as support for the planning, inspection and analysis of research F&E and policy planning.

For the strategic expansion of the research F&E that are fundamental for the prosperity of advanced science and technology and promotion of their co-utilization, the NFEC promotes six national research F&E promotion programs – equipment development, equipment construction, equipment operation, equipment utilization, equipment personnel and equipment information – based on the following ten major functions: National research facilities & equipment policy planning and legal & institutional improvement; organization and operation of the Review Board of the Research Equipment Budget; roadmap planning for large research F&E; survey of domestic and international trends & future demand; information collection & management and utilization; standardization and current status survey; promotion of co-utilization; full-time mentoring service; promotion of the relocation of idle & low-utilization equipment; professional operating staff education & training.

Just as light displays a spectacular spectrum after passing through a prism, so we will open a new era to display the nation’s research F&E as an integrated research F&E management body.
