Overview
The NINS, founded in 2004, is an inter-university organization comprised of five institutes: the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan, National Institute for Fusion Science, National Institute for Basic Biology, National Institute for Physiological Sciences, and the Institute of Molecular Science. It’s been perceived as a world-class natural science research institute that makes a large contribution to the achievement of research outcomes by providing joint usage and joint research to researchers at national and public universities across the nation. In addition, it has nurtured professional staff in the natural sciences through joint usage and joint research with other researchers and graduate education through research institutes and colleges in the natural science and inter-disciplinary sectors. In fact, it has made contribution to the better understanding of nature and social development through joint usage and research with colleges in various natural science sectors including space, materials, energy, and life.
