This report summarizes a study on the estimation method of maintenance cost, a critical factor for the stable utilization of research equipment. The management of research equipment has a significant effect on the normal operation of research equipment. It is also critical in increasing the life of research equipment. In terms of research equipment maintenance costs, scope and perception vary among researchers. To estimate maintenance costs, therefore, all costs spent in operating research equipment are summarized, and each item’s definition and scope are set. The research equipment maintenance cost can be estimated with the data on conventional costs. Because these data aren’t available in most organizations, however, it is impossible to estimate the cost. Therefore, this report classifies the research equipment maintenance cost by standard classification and size through expert survey of the research equipment.
